Yeast infection home remedies that work (and those that don’t)

Yeast is caused by Candida Albicans. It is known to affect mostly ladies but men are also greatly affected too. It thrives in moist places. Yeast infection is known to affect different parts of the body like; armpits, under the breasts, between fingers and generally where the skin folds. However, it is known to commonly affect women on their vaginal area.

Burning sensation
This burning sensation can be a real bother and occurs mostly after itching and while urination. It can be really uncomfortable and even gets worse the longer it goes untreated.

A thick cheese like discharge
This is actually the first sign noticed that raises an alarm in most people. This kind of discharge brought about by a yeast infection is very thick, white or yellow and cloudy. This kind of discharge also has a foul smell. It comes from within and spreads out to the outer part of the vagina.

Natural methods of treating yeast infection, or any other medical condition is always best. The chances of complicating the condition further are reduced. There are some known home remedies that are known to work wonders in treating yeast infection. The ingredients are locally available.

This is the most common home remedy for yeast infection. There are numerous types of yogurt flavors and types in the market but plain yogurt is preferred in this case. You could choose to drink it or insert a tablespoonful of it in your vagina. It might be unimaginable trying to figure out how to get it in and make it stay in but there is a way. Soak a tampon in yogurt and let it stay for a while. After there is enough in it, gently insert the tampon in the vagina. Do this as many times as possible until the yeast has cleared completely. Make sure however that the yogurt is all natural, plain and not flavored.

Apple cider vinegar
This is considered to be one of the best home remedies for yeast infection. It shouldn’t be used raw and directly on the affected area. Add one and a half cup full of apple cider in a bath tub filled with warm water (lukewarm). Soak in it for about 20 minutes and repeat this step once a day for the next 3days or until the symptoms disappear.

Tea tree oil
Mix the tee tree oil with rubbing alcohol, the result should be a milky white substance. In a pint of water, add 10 drops of it and use the mixture to rinse the vagina. Repeat this until all the symptoms disappear.

This ingredient works wonders and can be used in two ways. Depending on your guts, take a single piece; make incisions in it on the sides. Tie it with a string and insert it in your vagina. It is known to cause a burning sensation. Alternatively, you could crush a piece of the garlic into small pieces and swallow with a glass of water.

Gentian violet
Soak a piece of cotton wool in gentian violet until it is properly soaked. Wipe the internal walls of the vagina and repeat this procedure until all the symptoms disappear.

All these remedies work but there are some that just don’t do anything when it comes to clearing the symptoms.

People assume that antibiotics clear all the symptoms of yeast infection but actually achieve the opposite. They aggravate the symptoms and blow the yeast infection out of control.

It has been assumed that soaking in milk works for yeast infection as it is almost the same as yogurt. It would be true to say that this is just a waste of milk as it has no impact on the condition.

Flavored yogurt
Since it advisable to use yogurt as it clears the signs of yeast infection, some translate this as just any form of yogurt. It is only recommended that one uses the plain yogurt that has no flavoring in it. It is more effective that way.

Petroleum jelly
Due to the redness experienced as a symptom of yeast infection, one might be tempted to apply jelly to ease the redness. This might make the symptoms worse as yeast infection thrives in moist places.

Soaking in the pool
This might be assumed to help wash the insides of your vagina but it is a great way of spreading the yeast to other people. This however doesn’t work but instead spreads the harm of it.

It is however advisable to seek medical advice in case the symptoms do not disappear or if the condition becomes worse.
